Homemade Pepperoni Pizza Roll Breadsticks

A flavorful twist on comfort food featuring cheesy, pepperoni-filled roll breadsticks perfect for any occasion.

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup warm water (110°F)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup sliced pepperoni
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 cup marinara sauce (for dipping)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast: In a small bowl, mix warm water, yeast, and sugar. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes until it’s frothy.
  2. Mix the dry ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and salt.
  3. Combine wet and dry: Once the yeast mixture is bubbly, add it to your flour mixture along with the olive oil. Stir until it begins to come together.
  4. Knead the dough: Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead it for about 5-7 minutes until it’s smooth and elastic.
  5. Let it rise: Place your kneaded dough in a lightly oiled bowl and cover it with a kitchen towel. Let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
  6. Prepare the filling: Mix together mozzarella, pepperoni, Parmesan cheese, Italian seasoning, garlic powder, and red pepper flakes.
  7. Shape the dough: Punch the risen dough down, turn it out onto a floured surface, and roll it into a rectangle (about 12×16 inches).
  8. Fill and roll: Spread filling mixture evenly over the dough and roll tightly from the long end, pinching the seam to seal it.
  9. Cut the rolls: Slice the rolled dough into 1-inch wide pieces.
  10. Second rise: Place the slices cut-side up on a greased baking sheet and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  11. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  12. Bake: Bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
  13. Cool & serve: Let them cool slightly and serve warm with marinara sauce for dipping.

Notes

For a spicier version, consider using jalapeños in place of pepperoni or add garlic butter after baking for an extra layer of flavor.
