Reese’s Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake

A rich and indulgent chocolate peanut butter cake topped with creamy frosting and Reese’s peanut butter cups, perfect for any celebration.

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 4 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • Reese’s peanut butter cups, chopped (for topping)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Prepare your pans by greasing and flouring two 9-inch round cake pans.
  3. Mix the dry ingredients in a large bowl: flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Combine the wet ingredients in another bowl: eggs, milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract.
  5. Add the wet ingredients to the dry while mixing on low speed until just combined.
  6. Stir in the boiling water carefully to combine.
  7. Pour the batter evenly into prepared pans.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  9. Cool the cakes in pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  10. Make the frosting by beating together butter and peanut butter until smooth, then gradually adding powdered sugar and vanilla extract.
  11. Frost the first layer with frosting, place the second layer on top, and frost the top and sides.
  12. Top with chopped Reese’s peanut butter cups.

Notes

For a lighter version of the cake, substitute oil with unsweetened applesauce. The cake can be frozen for up to 3 months.
