Creamy Southern Pea Salad

A vibrant and creamy Southern pea salad perfect for any gathering, filled with sweet peas, crispy bacon, and a rich dressing.

  • 18 oz peas (frozen petite peas)
  • 2 eggs (hard-boiled and diced)
  • 7 slices bacon (cooked and crumbled)
  • 1/2 cup onion (finely chopped)
  • 1 cup cheddar cheese (sharp)
  • 1/2 cup celery (finely diced)
  • 3/4 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp pepper
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 dash cayenne
  • 1 pinch smoked paprika
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup sour cream

Instructions

  1. Boil the eggs in cold water, bring to a boil, cover, and let sit for 10-12 minutes. Cool, peel, and dice.
  2. Cook the bacon in a skillet until crispy, then drain on paper towels.
  3. Prepare the vegetables by chopping the onion and celery into small pieces.
  4. Mix the mayonnaise and sour cream in a large bowl, adding garlic powder, salt, pepper, cayenne, and smoked paprika. Whisk until smooth.
  5. Add peas, bacon, onion, celery, and eggs to the dressing, stirring gently.
  6. Incorporate the cheese and ensure everything is well mixed.
  7. Taste and adjust the seasoning if needed.
  8. Chill in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before serving.

Notes

Great for potlucks and barbecues. Serve with extra cheese and green onions on top.
