Homemade Strawberry Jam

A simple and delightful recipe for homemade strawberry jam that captures the sweetness of summer.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds strawberries, hulled
  • 4 cups sugar
  • 1/4 cup lemon juice
  • 1 packet fruit pectin

Instructions

  1. Prep the strawberries: In a large bowl, place your hulled strawberries. Use a potato masher or a fork to mash the berries to your desired consistency.
  2. Combine ingredients: Transfer the strawberries to a large saucepan and add in the remaining sugar and lemon juice. Stir everything together until well combined.
  3. Cooking the mixture: Place the saucepan over medium-high heat. Stir constantly until the mixture comes to a rolling boil. Once boiling, add the packet of fruit pectin and continue boiling for exactly 1-2 minutes while stirring constantly.
  4. Test the jam: To check if your jam is ready, perform the “plate test.” Spoon a little bit of jam onto a cold plate and return it to the freezer for a minute. Check if it wrinkles and holds its shape.
  5. Jarring it up: Once your jam has reached the perfect consistency, carefully ladle it into sterilized jars, leaving about 1/4 inch of space at the top. Wipe the rims of the jars clean before sealing.
  6. Let it cool: Allow the jars to cool completely at room temperature before moving them to the fridge or pantry.

Notes

For longer shelf life, process jars in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes.
