Homemade Gyros

Experience the joy of making authentic gyros at home with this delicious recipe featuring seasoned meats and fresh toppings wrapped in warm pita bread.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound ground lamb
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Tzatziki sauce
  • Sliced tomatoes
  • Sliced onions
  • Sliced cucumbers
  • Pita bread

Instructions

  1. Prepare Your Meat Mixture: In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef and ground lamb. Using your hands, mix them until combined. Sprinkle in the garlic powder, onion powder, oregano, salt, and pepper. Trust me, get in there and mix it up!
  2. Shape and Cook the Gyro Meat: Use your hands (wet them to prevent sticking!) to form the meat into patties or logs. Preheat a skillet over medium-high heat and add olive oil. Cook the patties for about 4–5 minutes on each side.
  3. Assemble Your Pitas: Allow the meat to rest, then prepare your pita bread. Slice or chop the meat into bite-sized pieces.
  4. Add Your Toppings: Drizzle with tzatziki sauce, and add a mix of tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers.
  5. Enjoy! Fold your pita over and savor the flavors!

Notes

Serve with extra tzatziki on the side and pair with crispy french fries or a refreshing Greek salad for a complete meal.
