Ham and Bean Soup

A warm and comforting ham and bean soup perfect for chilly evenings, packed with flavor and nostalgia.

  • 2 cups diced ham
  • 2 cups white beans (Cannellini or Great Northern)
  • 2 carrots, chopped
  • 2 celery stalks, chopped
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 cups chicken or vegetable broth
  • 2 bay leaves
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare your ingredients: Dice ham, chop onions, carrots, celery, and mince garlic.
  2. Sauté the aromatics: Heat olive oil in a pot, add onion, carrots, and celery, cooking for 5-7 minutes.
  3. Add the garlic: Cook for another minute until fragrant.
  4. Toss in the ham: Stir in the diced ham and let caramelize for 2-3 minutes.
  5. Mix in the beans and broth: Pour in beans and enough broth to cover, adding bay leaves and thyme.
  6. Let it simmer: Simmer for 30-40 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  7. Season to taste: Adjust salt, pepper, and herbs as desired.
  8. Serve and enjoy: Remove bay leaves and ladle soup into bowls.

Notes

Garnish with parsley or thyme, and serve with crusty bread or cornbread for a complete meal.
