Chocolate and Blood Orange Tart

A delightful tart that combines rich dark chocolate with the bright zest of blood oranges, offering a perfect balance of sweet and tart flavors.

  • 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup dark chocolate, chopped
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 23 blood oranges, segmented
  • Powdered sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Combine the graham cracker crumbs, melted butter, and granulated sugar in a mixing bowl until thoroughly mixed.
  3. Press the mixture into a tart pan, ensuring it evenly covers the bottom and sides. Bake for about 10 minutes and set aside to cool.
  4. Melt the chopped dark chocolate in the microwave or double boiler and let it cool slightly.
  5. Heat the heavy cream in a saucepan until it begins to simmer.
  6. Pour the hot cream over the melted chocolate and whisk until smooth. Add in the eggs, vanilla, and salt, and whisk until combined.
  7. Pour the mixture into the cooled crust.
  8. Bake the tart for about 25-30 minutes, until the edges are firm but the center is slightly wobbly.
  9. Cool the tart at room temperature for about an hour, then refrigerate for at least two hours.
  10. Segment the blood oranges just before serving and arrange them atop the tart.
  11. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

The tart can be made ahead of time and keeps well in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Serve with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream for an extra indulgent treat.
