These Sweet Hawaiian Bread Rolls are soft, fluffy, and irresistibly sweet, making them a perfect addition to any meal or a delightful stand-alone snack.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour (plus more for dusting)
  • 3 tsp instant yeast
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 6 tbsp unsalted butter (softened)
  • 2 whole eggs (room temperature)
  • ½ cup pineapple juice
  • ½ cup whole milk (lukewarm)
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1 whole egg
  • 2 tsp milk
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter (melted)

Instructions

  1. Activate the yeast by combining ½ cup lukewarm milk and 3 tsp instant yeast in a small bowl, then let it sit for about 5 minutes.
  2. Combine dry ingredients: whisk 4 cups flour, ¾ cup sugar, and ¾ tsp salt in a large bowl.
  3. Melt the butter and mix it with eggs, pineapple juice, and vanilla in a separate bowl, then combine with dry ingredients.
  4. Pour the liquid mixture into the dry ingredients along with the yeast mixture. Stir until a dough forms.
  5. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 6-8 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  6. Let it rise: place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  7. Shape the rolls by punching down the dough, dividing it into 12 pieces, and rolling them into smooth balls.
  8. Cover the rolls and let them rise for another 30 minutes while preheating the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Brush the tops with a mixture of egg and milk, then drizzle with melted butter before baking for 25-30 minutes.
  10. Enjoy! Let them cool slightly before serving warm.

Notes

These rolls can be served on their own, with butter, or as a base for sliders. They also freeze well for future enjoyment.
